INSURANCE RATES AT INDIANAPOLIS A local paper comments upon the increase of fire apparatus and raising of insurance rateB in Indianapolis as follows: It will hardly be contended that Indianapolis should spend $100,000 for fire apparatus and calmly submit to an additional increase in insurance rates. The rates in Indianapolis are already high enough. We are having few large fires. We have a fairly good department and a vigilant force of men. Whenever, by chance, there is a fire of any magnitude up pops the representative of foreign insurance companies and demands more fire apparatus and a higher rate of insurance. When and where is this to stop? There w ill alw ays be fires. If there were a fire engine in every house in the city it would be no sure preventive of fire loss. In fact, everybody knows that enginehouses have burned down—but not in Indianapolis. The merchants…
