BROOKLYN’S SALT WATER PLANT. Work has been begun at the Navy yard on part of the salt water system for protection from fire, which is about to be installed at a cost of about $40,000. The work commenced with the laying of a big main, thirty inches in diameter, which will be connected with a reservoir and the water front. The reservoir has recently been completed and has a capacity of 400,000 gallons and is located near the new powerhouse at the Flushing avenue end of the yard. It is constructed of brick and is twenty feet in diameter and thirty feet deep. The pipe will connect with the river at a point three feet below low water mark,and the water will be carried by gravity flow through the main to the reser” voir.
