FIRE DEPARTMENT OF CHAMPAIGN. Secretary Demlow, of the fire department of Champaign, Ill., sends the following particulars of that establishment : “The department consists of twenty-two men, volunteers (except two paid drivers). These include chief, assistant chief, engineer, and rank and file. The apparatus is as follows: Steamer; hose cart; two ladder trucks; 2,000 feet of good hose. As a rule, the department makes as good time as if it were paid, and it will not be very long before we are fixed as good as, or, may be, better than a good many towns of the same size as ourselves, since we have a very good mayor, and likewise an excellent body of conncilmen, who are always ready to give the chief what he asks for.
