FIRE AND WATER ALTHOUGH the report of Lieut.-Col. Miller on the mechanical filtration of the water supply of Washington, D. C., published on March 28, 1900, stood, so far as the Senate committee was concerned, still Congress passed an act on March 1,1901, specifically appropriating money for slow sand-filtration, as recommended by Messrs. Hazen, Fuller, Hering, and other experts in New York, and in accordance with the criticisms of the committees of the Medical Society of the District of Columbia and the local board of trade. The whole subject seems to have been gone into with great care und extreme deliberation.
