NEW RESERVOIR FOR NEWARK. A new storage reservoir for the Newark, N. J., water supply will be built at Cedar Grove in the Orange mountains. The work will be begun at once. The Newark board of works has awarded the contract to Stewart & Abbott, of New York, representing the Abbott-Gamble Contracting company, of New York and St. Louis, and James Stewart & Co., of Pittsburgh. The contract price is $581,217. The construction of the reservoir has been in contemplation for ulno years. In the Pequannock watershed, where the city obtains its water, there are four reservoirs, liesides an intake reservoir at Maoopin, with a total storage capacity of about 12,000,000 gallons. Thesite of the new reservoir is a valley bounded by hillsThe valley will be turned Into a lake and the outlet walled up by masonry. The capacity of the reservoir will be about 800,000,000 gallons.
