NEW PUMPS FOR PHILADELPHIA. The pumps to be installed in the station for the new fire main service (to be built at Delaware avenue and Race street, Philadelphia) will be very powerful. There will be eight double-acting plunger pumps, operated by gas driving engines. Each pump is required by the specifications to be capable of discharging 1,400 gallons of water a minute, and not less than 1,200 gallons against a pressure of 300 pounds to the square inch. The new waterworks at Salisbury Beach, Mass., will soon be in operation, the water company of that place having nearly completed the work ot placing fire hydrants at the beach centre.
