OBITUARY. William J. Whiting, for many years a member of the firm of S. F. Hayward & Company, manufacturers of, and agents for fire extinguishing apparatus, died on Sunday in the Brooklyn hospital after an operation for appendicitis. Mr. Whiting was born in Franklin, Mass., in 1885. He was educated at several military academics, and then became connected with the clothing firm of Edwin Bates & company, in New York city. Later he was with E. P. Gleason & Co., going subsequently to the Haywards. Since leaving that firm, four years ago, he has devoted himself to mining interests. He was a director in the Conelly Iron, Sponge and Governor company. Mr. Whiting was an active member of All Souls Universalist church, Hyatt lodge, F. & A. M. the Hanover club and the St. Maurice club, of Canada. He leaves a widow, a daughter, and a son.
