THE CATAWBA POWER PLANT. A Successful North Carolina Enterprise. (Specially written for FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING.) By the development of the power of the Catawba river at a point eighteen miles above Charlotte, N. C., it will be possible in a very short time for every factory in that city to be run by electricity. The necessary steps toward that end have been taken by Dr. W. G. Wylie, of New York, a native of Chester, S. C., who has organised the Catawba Power company, of which he is the president, Schuyler Hazard, chief engineer, and F. B. Freeman, superintendent of construction, with general offices at Rock Hill, S. C. The plant itself (illustrations of which accom pany this article through the courtesy of the Char lotte Daily Observer) is being built at Indian Hook Shoals on the Catawba river, distant seven and onehalf miles from Rock Hill.
