FIRE NOTES FROM NEWARK (Correspondenceof FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING.) The fire commissioners have submitted their budget for 1903 to the common council; it contains a long list of requests. It is not expected that the department will be given all that is recommended; but a portion of the needs will be met each year. A total of $448,000 is asked for, which sum includes the running expenses of the department for the year, as well as sufficient money for the purchase of one steam engine, two city trucks, three combination wagons, and a $40,000 fireboat. The latter will certainly be struck out. These wants are all in addition to the apparatus purchased last year and not yet delivered. All the new apparatus will be of the most modern design and equipped with rubber tires, and the trucks with patent tiller lock. Chief Kiersted has asked for sufficient funds for the…
