FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING. It is reported that Mr. Thomas E. Crimmins is a candidate for fire commissioner of New York. If this is true, it ought to be very welcome news for the people of this city. Mr. Crimmins is an engineer and contractor of great reputation, and, should he accept the commissionership, the same intelligence which made him so successful a business man would be imported into the management of the fire department, with the best results to the fire service of the city. We trust Mr. Crimmins will find time for the position, as he is eminently qualified to discharge the duties attached to it with satisfaction to those under him, as well as to the taxpayers, who have to hear the expense of maintaining this very important branch of our municipal government.
