MAYOR MCCLELLAN ON THE WATER SUPPLY. Mayor McClellan has sent a special message to the board of aldermen of New York city, in which he requested that means be devised for testing public sentiment on Governor Odell’s proposition for a special session of the legislature to pass a water supply bill for Greater New York. The mayor expresses doubt if the same legislature that passed the Smith bill would give New York the desired relief, and, even if it did, he feared that the governor’s “fixed opinion” was opptsed to anything like a repeal of the Smith bill. Therefore he was not sure but it might be better to wait for the new legislature next year.
