NORTH CAROLINA FIREMEN IN CONVENTION. On August 2 the North Carolina State Firemen’s association met in convention at Salisbury, with President J. D. McNeill, of Fayetteville in the chair. After prayer by the Rev. W. B. Buttern, D. D., Mayor Boyden made the address of welcome, and was supported by Mr. Whitehead Kluttz. Mayor B. Eaton, of Winston, replied in a feeling address of thanks, and included in his speech an invitation to the association to meet in 1905 at Winston-Salem; the invitation was accepted. The whole of the first day was devoted to business, and during the proceedings B. F. Stay-mates, director of the contests at the World’s Fair. St. Louis, delivered an address, in which he invited the North Carolina firemen to take advantage of the low rates of transportation and enter the great parade of firemen at St. Louis during Firemen’s week there.
