WATERWORKS ITEMS FROM ALL PARTS (FROM SPECIAL REPORTS TO FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING) At Ottumwa, Ia., the McCarthy Improvement company, of Davenport, was awarded the contract for the construction of two twenty-four-inch water mains under the river for $10,200. Stanhope, N. J., has voted against installing a waterworks system. It will purchase water from the Rockland Water company but must lay its own pipes and set its own hydrants. It has voted $10,oco for the purpose. The large standpipe of the Sanford, Me., Light and Water company, which was put up only a few weeks ago, failed recently. The structure broke into two halves, each of which was hurled in an opposite direction. The ownership of the waterworks is no new question in the city of Knoxville, Tenn.
