INTERNATIONAL FIRE SERVICE COUNCIL. At the annual meeting of the executive committee of the International Fire Service council held at Brussels. Belgium, on April 17 and 18, there was a good gathering of members from the principal European countries. Colonel Sextus Meyer, of the Copenhagen fire brigade, was unanimously elected chairman of the executive for the next two years. Colonel Meyer is one of the senior professional officers of the European continent. He was formerly a lieutenant-colonel of the Danish Royal Engineers, and is a linguist and personally very popular. Five special commissioners of five members each have been appointed to investigate and report on the following subiects respectively: (1) Organisation and fire appliances: (2) Fire alarms; (3) Fire prevention; (4) Congress matters; (5) International relations.
