NEW RUBBER HOSE SPECIFICATIONS. The New York city fire department has adopted new and more stringent specifications for rubber fire hose as follows for the use of the fire depart ment in the boroughs of Manhattan and The Bronx: On reading them over, it will be seen that the stretching of the inner tube, which was formerly ten inches, is now twelve; the Sea Island duck to be used must also be tested in the department’s repair shops. Other noticeable points are that, instead of specifying that the mixture of the metal for the couplings shall be as hard as practicable, and that permission is given to send a representative to the factory of the successful bidder to watch the course of manufacture of this hose at the expense of the contractor, and to the successful bidder only to he present at the test made by tbe department officials—the last…
