WATER FOR LOS ANGELES. Work will soon be started on a waterworks system for Los Angeles, Cal., which will secure an unlimited supply of pure water for all future needs. The scheme is to bring mountain water from Owens lake and river in Inyo county, across deserts, through mountains, and across plains, a distance of 240 miles. Engineers have estimated that the cost of the work will exceed $23,000,000. The survey has shown that all the water can be conveyed by gravity, no pumping plants being necessary. The construction of thirty miles of tunnel will be necessarv.
