WATER BOARD APPOINTMENTS. The new, board of water supply for New York city, has installed J. Waldo Smith, formerly chief engineer to the Croton aqueduct commission, as its chief engineer Professor William H. Burr, who headed the Burr Hering-Freeman commission which investigated the Hudson watersheds, was made a consulting engineer to the chief engineer, as also was Professor Frederic P. Stevens, who is the chief engineer of the Metropolitan water board of Massachusetts, which is completing at Boston the greatest waterworks in the United States. John R. Freeman, another member of the Burr-Hering-Freeman commission, was made a consulting engineer to the board. A. D. Finn was made a division engineer. II. G. Murray was installed as secretary, Henry C. Bunckc was appointed auditor, and Joseph M. S. Millitte was made chief clerk. This completes the list of the exempt clerical positions at the disposition of the board. Other exempt places…
