THE BREMEN FIREHOUSES. One of the pictures of the Bremen fire department sent by Chief Dittman to the late Chief Meminger, of Milwaukee, who recently entertained the German fire chief, shows a tower neat one of the houses on which the firemen practise climbing, saving lives and so on. The conspicuous thing about most of the fire houses of the German city buildings is the elaborate attempts to make them architecturally beautiful. Wooden beams sunk in fancy brick work, gables and general outline all combine to promote this object, The tower is especially artistic.. All the houses and their surroundings are as neat as wax. The apparatus, hitched and manned, stands in front of the houses. The engines are noticeably small. Above the hose cart are carried the chutes through which inmates of burning buildings are slid to safety. Chief Dittman said that so carefully inspected and constructed are buildings…
