OBITUARY. Readers of FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING will learn with much regret of the death of Warwick H. Payne, who for a number of years past represented the Eureka Fire Hose company in the sale of its fire hose throughout the Southern States, with headquarters at Atlanta, Ga. Mr. Payne died on the ninth instant, after an illness of several months. He was a native of Scottsboro, Ala., and was born thirty years ago. He came from one of the best known families in Alabama, and he was president of the Confederate Sons’ association, and formerly secretary to General Joe Wheeler. Mr. Payne was educated at the University of Alabama, and graduated as a lawyer, bur, owing to ill health, was unable to follow his profession. He was also prominently connected with the Smithsonian Institution at Washington as expert on Indian exhibits.
