THE ADIRONDACK STREAMS. The efforts made by private corporations to get possession of the Adirondack streams for power purposes are being vigorously opposed by several associations organised for that purpose. Briefs have been submitted to the River Improvement commission at Albany, N. Y., and now opinion is chiefly desired on the points of law as to whether that commission has the power to permit the flooding of State lands by damming streams, even if no timber is destroyed thereby. The Association for the Protection of the Adirondack’s is of the opinion that the commission cannot, in any event, give the privilege of flowing to private parties. The attorneys for the power companies have been granted till December 27 to file their answer. They will resist attempts to have the matter adjudicated before it goes to the legislature in the form of the commission’s report; hut the associations contend that the…
