The great conflagration in Chicago which took place in 1871 has gone down into history as one of the greatest fires of the century. Out of the 324 regular firemen who took part in the extinguishment of this great conflagration only seventyone of these brave men are alive today. It is strange that no record of the roster of the department of this terrible disaster is in existence, and that records of the fire department at that time are unobtainable. Through the courtesy of the corresponding secretary of the Fire Veterans of 1871 we are enabled to give our readers the full roster of the department at that time, and we can vouch for the fact that this is the only correct record…
