FOR PERMANENT CHIEFS IN MASSACHUSETTS. The following is a copy of the bill now before the Massachusetts legislature, the object of which is to make the offices of chief and assistant engineer of fire departments permanent: Section 1. The chief engineers and assistant engineers of the fire departments in all the cities, towns, fire districts of the Commonwealth having a permanent fire department, who are now or may hereafter he appointed or elected, shall hold their office until removed by the officials or boards electing or appointing them, for reasons deemed by them sufficient, specifically given in writing hv the officer or board ordering the removal. Section 2. The person sought to he removed shall have written notice, and he furnished with a copy of the reasons required to be given in section one, and shall he allowed fourteen days for answering the same, either personally or by counsel, at…
