AMONG THE FIRE ENGINEERS Specially reported for FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING. The S. E. T. A. having come to the conclusion that there must be an improvement in the fire protection of BIRMINGHAM, ALA., asked George C. Hale, former chief of the fire department of Kansas City, Mo., to report on its condition. In submitting his report, he compliments the present, as well as the former chief, and states that the fire department of the city is as efficient as any other in the country under similar conditions. In his recommendations, however, he suggests additional apparatus and men. It would seem from this that he considers the personnel of the department efficient, so far as the present number and equipment justifies.
