MERIDIAN CAN BOND ITSELF. According to a decision of the Supreme court the city of Meridian may now issue the bonds authorised by the legislature and approved by the people at an election, and build and operate an independent waterworks system of its own, regardless of the franchise that has been granted to the present company. Some time ago an effort was made to purchase the waterworks plant; but the city was not satisfied with the amount placed as purchase money by the commission selected, and no sale was gone into. It was then decided to build and operate an independent waterworks system. The waterworks company secured an injunction against the city to prevent the building and operation of the plant, the case just decided being an appeal on the application for the dissolving of the injunction then granted.
