FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING The usefulness of fire chiefs’ clubs is being evidenced more and more. That of New Jersey has introduced a hill into the legislature enacting that every fire chief shall receive a salary from the day of his election; while that of Massachusetts has introduced another into the legislature of that State guaranteeing fixity of tenure in office to the chief officers of every paid fire department, at the same time providing that the municipal authorities shall have ample proofs of dismissal in the case of such officers as fail to do their duty or are guilty of misconduct. Each bill should pass.
