BERLIN, ONT., FIRE DEPARTMENT. For some time the protracted strife in its fire department has wearied the aldermen and citizens of the otherwise peaceable city of Berlin, Out. It is confidently expected, however, that all such dissension will now become a tiling of the past, owing to the appointment of W. A. Howard, an expert fireman who has been trained to his work as a member of the London, Out., fire department, where he served under the late Chief Roe. who, it will be remembered, was killed a few years ago while in active service, and under his successor, Chief Lawrence Clark, who likewise enjoys a high reputation as a firefighter. Coming into the Berlin department as a perfect stranger, Chief Howard stands a better chance of healing old sores than if he had himself been a member of the department.
