That a regularly organised fire department is a part of the Erie Railway company’s service may be news to some of the employes of the system, as it may be to the general public. But it has a high-grade firefighting force, with companies stationed at the Duane street piers, Manhattan, New York, at Jersey City pier, Weehawken, Jersey City shops, Port Jervis, Dunmore, Susquehanna, Hornellsville, Buffalo shops, Buffalo car shops, Meadville, Cleveland, Gabon and Huntington. A prize of a massive cup known as the Erie Railway lire department trophy is to be awarded to that company showing the best record and discipline at the annual inspection. A hot rivalry for its possession already exists.
