A DAM BREAKS. The recent heavy rains ami the thawing of the snow in New Hampshire were responsible for the destruction of a considerable amount of damage and the loss of no little property at West Canaan in that State At that place, giving way under the pressure of the waters of Crystal lake, which were swollen by the fast melting snow and heavy downpour of rain, the dam at the outlet of the lake went out on the night of Sunday, April 15. and a great wall of water rushed through the valley, carrying awav several highwav bridges and doing extensive damage to the highways No one was injured, as no houses were in the path of the flood. With the dam, was carried away the fishscreen. which has protected the valuable fisheries of the lake for many years, and it is feared that the fisheries arc ruined.
