MISSING THE MARK. When a chimney caught fire the other day in the drawing office of the arsenal at Woolwich, England, the arsenal fire brigade turned out as usual ready for action. Unfortunately, however, the firemen put the nozzle of the hose down the wrong chimney, flooding another office and doing more damage than the fire. During the recent fire in the Gay building, Montgomery, Ala., Captain Watkins, of engine company No. 4, rescued four men who were asleep on one of the upper floors. The aerial ladder was an impossibility, and the long ladders were all in use in front. A short ladder was procured. on the top of which Captain Watkins stood, and calling to the men to drop, caught each one of them in his arms as they came down. A policeman saved a woman in the same way.
