THE QUEEN LANE FILTERS. A circular has been sent out to contractors by Major Gillette, of the water department of that city, as a first notice to them as to the scope of the plans for the Queen lane filters. Although filters for this contingent have actually been built at Torresdale, Major Gillette proposes to install a new set at Queen lane. The circular informs contractors that the beds will cover about twenty acres, and the plant will furnish 60,000,000 gallons of water daily. One bit of startling information is that there is some thought of using something else than the slow sand filtration system to which the city is now’ committed. The circular says: “At the same time bids will be received from the contractors upon their own plans to furnish the plant. It must be large enough to clarify and ptirifv a supply of 60,000,000 gallons of water…
