C., recently and took a survey of the two fires which occurred there on the afternoon of July 14. The citizens of Rossland should feel thankful for the work done on the day mentioned. Both fires occurred in the business district and were held down with losses aggregating $30,000. Cranbrook, B. C., and one of the mill districts had fires during the month of July which will add $100,000 to the fire losses for the month of July. Chief James Smart, of Calgary, Alta., Canada, is using every effort to make the coming Convention of the Pacific Coast Association of l ire Chiefs a success. President David Campbell, of Portland, Oregon, will be present with a delegation from British Columbia. Washington and Oregon.
