AMONG THE FIRE ENGINEERS Specially reported for FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING. The value of buildings threatened by fire during the last year at GRAND RAPIDS, MICH., amounted to $2,143,569; that of the contents to $1,523,821—total, $3,667,390; the insurance on buildings, $1,222,975; on contents, $945,850— total, $2,168,825. The total loss on buildings for the year was $61,938.08; on contents, $94,364.75— total loss by fire during the past year, $156,302.83. During the year there were 308 alarms. One hundred and seventy-live were hox calls and 199 still alarms. Sixty-six were duplicates or false alarms. During the year there were seven accidents to members of the department, and none fatal. Six persons outside’ the departmnt figured in accidents during the year of which number three proved fatal. The department, over which Fire Marshal Henry I.emoin is head, consists of 140 men.
