WATERPLANT OF ELYRIA. Elyria, Ohio, is fortunate in having Lake Erie as the source of its water supply. Its plant is quite modern, having been installed in 1903, and greatly improved last April by the addition of a 5,000,000-gal. high-duty engine. a 5,000,000-gal. low-service pump, two filters and a boiler. The water comes from a point in lake Erie distant eight miles from the business centre of the city, and is pumped direct into the mains. The mechanical system of filtration is employed, two concrete (liters, each of 1,000,000-gal. capacity, being used. These were designed throughout by George L. Weller, superintendent of the city’s waterworks department, and are giving entire satisfaction. It is expected that two more will be added this season. The water furnished by them to the city has been pronounced by the State chemist as “equal to the best in the State.” The new high-duty 5.000,000-gal. pump…
