NEW WATER SUPPLY FOR CHARLESTOWN. Charlestown, N. H., has installed an up-to-date waterworks system with an excellent pressure, sufficient to throw a stream above the Roman Catholic church, which is fifty feet higher than Main street. Nearly too places have been connected, and many other applications have been received, even although the applicants have wells (some artesian) or springs on their property. Charlestown has to depend entirely upon steam for its motive power for manufacturing plants, as no waterpower is available, and will be greatly benefited in that way under the new conditions. Its fire protection, also, will be made more cer tain, as up to the present the town has had no adequate means of fighting the tlames, and whatever Pres did occur had literally to burn themselves out.
