More than $500,000 damage was caused, one life was lost, and several were injured by the recent explosion of a boiler, followed by a fire in the Harney shoe factory at WEST LYNN, MASS The man who perished was pinned under a machine, and the flames round him were so fierce and were spreading so rapidly that his fellow employes could not reach him and had to fly for their lives, else they would have suffered the same fate. The Harney shoe factory consisted of a large four-story wooden building, adjoining and connected by a wooden passageway, each 200 ft. long and having together a 100-ft. front.
