DEFIANT PAPER MILL OWNERS. During the recent investigation by Governor Hughes as to the pollution of the Adirondack wa ters by the paper mill owners one or two flagrant instances of defiance of orders turned up. In one case, two petitions were presented to the governor asking that he should declare a public nuisance the condition of Kayaderossenras creek, a tributary of Saratoga lake, and the Au Sable river, which empties into lake Champlain, N. Y. The petitioners in the case of Kayaderossenras creek declare that, as a result of dumping into the stream the refuse from the sulphite mills of the Union Bag and Paper company, the stream is so polluted that cattle refuse to drink the water, the fish are killed, and a noisome odor, dangerous to health, emanates from it.
