HALF JUBILEE OF CHIEF BINNS. As a token of the high regard in which he is held by those connected with the New York city fire department, in which he has just completed his twenty-fifth year, a silver tea and coffee service was presented to Deputy Chief John Binns on the evening of March 22 in the house of engine company 23, at 215 West Fifty-eighth street. Nearly 100 friends of the deputy chief where pressent. Among those who attended the presentation were Commissioner Lantry, of the fire department. James M. Leopold, Battalion Chief Root, Chaplain Smith, and Col. Thurston. Deputy Chief Binns entered.the department in March, 1882. In 1885 he received the Bennett medal for bravery. He was appointed deputy chief in 1903.
