POOR FIRE PROTECTION AT EL PASO. The Texas Fire Prevention association, reviewing the fire hazard at El Paso, Texas, reports the fire department inadequate and unsatisfactory. It says: “The department, on its present voluntary basis, is unsatisfactory and entirely inadequate for a city the size of El Paso. A full paid organisation under proper supervision is strongly urged. The present distribution of apparatus is poor, but will be somewhat improved by the two proposed new stations. There arconly two engines in the department, one of which is of unreliable type. Ladder-service hardly fair and should be reinforced by a modern quick-raising aerial truck and short ladders on evenhose wagon. Chemical service is fair. Hose of fair quality, but insufficient to provide two full shifts for each wagon; no proper facilities for drying hose.
