TESTS OF A NOTT STEAM FIRE ENGINE. Tests of a third-size Nott steam fire engine made at Freeport, N. Y., showed the following results: Test No. 1.—Two lines of 250 ft. of hose: I-in. nozzles, 175 lbs. water-pressure. Test No. 2.—Three lines of 250 ft., I-in. nozzles, 130 lbs. water-pressure. Test No. 3.— One line of 1,000 ft., 1 1/4 nozzles, 275 to 300 lbs. waterpressure. These tests were made from a 12in. main, with 20 to 30 lbs. water-pressure on the plug, and on the three-line test the gauge registered 20 lbs. on the hydrant. The actual distance by measurement that water was thrown against strong wind was as follows: On three lines, 168 ft.; on 1,000-ft. lines, 187 ft.
