Report on Ashokan Dam Contract. The Ashokan dam contract under which the city of New York, through the board of water supply, bound itself to pay the MacArthur Bros, and Winston company $12,669,775 for building the dam in preference to the John Peirce company, whose bid was $2,300,000 lower, has been condemned by Mayor McClellan’s commissioners of accounts, as being without justification. Their report recommended the mayor to prefer charges of incompetencv and misconduct against the board, on the grounds that it was wasting the city’s money. The case will be heard in a week or two, meanwhile there is a difference in opinion as to whether the members of the board will resign or fight. The board had decided against he Peirce company, because of the fear of delay in the completion of the contract arising from he alleged inexperience of the contractors and a losing price. This fear…
