Brooklyn and the Titus Wells. Trouble may arise from the fact that Silas W. Titus, who has contracted with New York city to furnish water to Brooklyn from driven wells at Jameco and elsewhere, has completed three and plans to put in ten or twelve more in Fourth avenue in that borough and along the route of the subway for which bids are about to he advertised. Tt is questionable whether the Titus rights in the matter can he voided, under his five-year contract, which allows him to place “such wells and connections as he may desire in the public streets and highways.” He himself pays for the plant and expects to make a net profit of $304,000 for producing not less than 5.000.000 gal. daily. 1 fe looks upon Fourth avenue as the best water-producing territory of all in which he can operate.
