Filtration. At Parkersburg, W. Va., the mayor has won out in his contention over the waterworks. One provision in the resolution which the council has at last passed is that a system of filtration is to be established. Expert opinion seems to favor a mechanical system, if only on the score of economy. Although the board of public service at Cleveland, Ohio, has secured the land for the contemplated filtration plant, the work of installing it will not be begun till the city is compelled to filter its water, so the president of the board is reported as saying. The Ashtabula, Ohio, Water company will build a sand filter to purify the Scioto river water.
