Fires in Royal Palaces. Both Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle have within the last few weeks been scenes of slight fires, which were quickly extinguished without any outside help. They might have been attended, however, by the most disastrous results had it not been for the wonderfully perfect organisation for dealing with this particular danger that has been introduced in all the royal palaces since the disastrous fire at Sandringham five years ago. when Queen Alexandra so nearly lost her life. Fire drills in the various palaces are as carefully kept up as on board the great ocean liners and men-of-war. The equipment of hydrants and hose is exceedingly complete, and in the case of emergency every member of the household, from high to low, knows exactly what to do and what is expected of him.
