New Jersey Fire Notes. Specially written for FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING. The Orange volunteer firemen have been disbanded, and their places have been taken by the permanent force, which has been newly uniformed and at present has beds temporarily set up in the council chamber.— The Oranges unfortunately seem to be quite a sort of storm centre at present. At a recent, somewhat noisy meeting of the fire committee at Orange in connection with the charges that the new hook and ladder truck is not up to specifications, Mayor Shoenthal and Alderman Cheetham indulged in a fierce and undignified discussion, in which each used most uncomplimentary terms one of the other. At South Orange the fire department is more or less excited over a dispute between Chief Harry J. Becker and three of the paid firemen.
