At Louisville, Ky., work has been begun on cleaning out the city mains. Notwithstanding the mayor’s veto, the council of Nashville, Tenn., has given the parks free water. The Puget Sound Metal Works has a contract at $6,too for an air compressor at the South Tacoma, Wash., pumping station. Mattoon. Ill., retains its option for the purchase of the plant of the Mattoon Clear Water company, which expired on May 22. Frank A. Foster, of Boston, has contracted to excavate a trench and lay 1,700 ft. of water pipe in Wellington Hill street at about $1,800. Of the old water mains at Puyallup, Wash., some have been laid for eighteen years, and all, except those recently installed, are leaking.…
