New Jersey Fire Notes. There have been some bad fires of late in the south of New Jersey. At Bayonne the Wheeler hotel, the largest in the city, caught fire from exploding gas and burned fiercely for a considerable time. The entire firefighting force was called out, and when the firemen arrived the flames had gained such headway that it was impossible to save the building. The firemen, therefore, turned their attention to nearby buildings. J he hotel was valued at $50,000 and accommodated aboout 200 patrons. No one was hurt. At Kahway the chemical plant of the E. O. S. Oil company on the south branch of the Rahway river, near the Six Roads, was burned down early in the morning. The loss is about $25,000. 1.ho works had been partly shut down for some time. Red Bank had an $80,000 blaze when John V. Mount & Brothers’ carriage…
