New York State Fire News. Schenectady has awarded a contract for laying fire alarm wires at $1,047.10. The fire commissioners of Buffalo have received a protest from former first-grade firemen who were not included in the recent annual increases of pay granted by the common council. When the raise was granted the common council established three grades for firemen instead of two as heretofore. Many of the former first-grade men found themselves placed in the second grade under the new arrangement, and receiving the same pay as formerly. The commissioners are asked to restore them to their old status, under the claim that the new rule should apply only to applicants received into the department after July 1st. If the protest is allowed the men then will receive $1,000 a year salary instead of $800, which they are receiving at present. A State organisation of paid firefighters is being agitated…
