Personal. The friends of Fred. S. Bates, New York manager of the Rensselaer Manufacturing company, of Troy, N. Y., will regret to learn that be has been very ill since June 20, and that last week he was removed to an hospital to undergo an operation. Late reports state that his condition is favorable for recovery.
