Eels and Electricity.

Issue 13 and Volume 44.

Eels and Electricity. One species of eel, the gymnotus, or electric eel of South American rivers, is an object of dread because of its stored electricity, which, sometimes overcomes even horses. In California, however, the tables are turned, and the eels of that State are the victims of the same force, as was seen in the case of the Snow Mountain Power company. That corporation being afflicted with a pest of eels that threatened to interfere with its operation, sunk a wire netting in the stream and charged it highly with electricity. As a result, thousands of the eels were killed.
