Improvements at Orange. With the addition of the new chemical combination hose wagon to the fire department last month, Orange, Mass., has one of the best equiped departments in that section. The equipment consists of 2 hand-reels—capacity 550 ft. of 2 1/2-in. hose; 1 2-horse hose wagon—capacity 1,000 ft. of 2 1/2-in. hose. It also carries 2 20-ft. extension-ladders and 2 pony chemicals, crowbars, axes, and wire-cutter; 1 2-horse chemical combination hose wagon, with a 35-gal. tank, 200 ft. chemical hose, 1,200 ft. ordinary hose; 1 hook and ladder truck, which carries 162. ft. of ladder, and 4 pony chemicals. The department can now lay 4,000 ft. of hose at short notice without reloading. Orange has a go-ahead upto-date board of fire engineers, and a well drilled body of firemen under Chief C. E. Lane.
